Cool things to do with ya nuts

Fresh-cracked macadamias are a different thing to the pre-cracked kind in a packet. Crack your own with a macadamia nut cracker, then try a few tricks from the workshop, and an invitation to share your own recipes.

Macadamia shortbread

The all-time favourite round here: buttery shortbread loaded with fresh macadamia. White chocolate and macadamia cookies are the usual first stop, but there is a lot more you can bake with fresh kernels.

Float the kernels

Eject the cracked nuts straight into a bowl of water (or beer, if you are that way inclined). The kernels float to the top and the shells sink, so separating them takes no effort. It also floats away the small bits of kernel that get left behind.

Load from a tray

Put the nuts on a tray and push the red cup over each one to pick it up. You crack faster and you never touch the shell.

Keep them in the shell

Macadamias keep their flavour better in the shell than as loose, pre-cracked kernels. Crack what you will eat in a sitting.

Open a beer

With the pin screwed fully in, it will lift a bottle cap without damaging it. Details in the guide to how to crack macadamia nuts, and the video demo.
